Weekly Grocery Challenge Shopping Recap

What is the $60 Weekly Grocery Challenge?

Each week my goal is to spend approximately $60 for food, drinks, groceries, toiletries and medicine for my family of five. Then, I report on this blog the items that I bought, the best sales and coupon match-ups that I found and hopefully by doing so, help you stretch your family’s grocery budget, as well!

How Did I Do This Week?

Aldi Trip – Spent $21.73
Harris Teeter Trip – Spent $51.83, Saved $107.88

Total – $73.56*

*I will receive a couple dollars back from SavingStar and I also received a Campbell’s Catalina coupon at checkout for $1.25 off my next shopping trip.

Aldi Shopping Trip

Spent $21.73

The green grapes were the only “fresh” produce item I purchased this week. The reason is I have so much fresh produce already on hand at home from recent weeks. I have everything in my refrigerator from tomatoes and green peppers from my garden to apples, red grapes, oranges, pears, lettuce and carrots purchased in recent weeks from Aldi.

As hard as I work to save money on our grocery bill each week, the last thing I want to do is throw away produce that has gone bad. So, I decided this week to only purchase green grapes (my kids love these in their school lunches) and make an effort to use up all of the excess produce with our meals. Next week, I will restock the produce and you will see many more “fresh” items in my grocery shopping pictures.

Harris Teeter Shopping Trip

My Harris Teeter trip this week included the awesome cereal deals (Cheerios $.19, Kix $.25, Rice Krispies $.32, Lucky Charms $.49), free Pantene spray gel and Pantene Expert conditioner, $.25 Puff’s tissues, two packages of 93% lean ground beef (they cost $3.73 and $3.79 per package), boneless, skinless chicken breast, gallon of milk, great baking supply deals (cheap ground cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice, $.42 Carnation evaporated milk, $1.47 Nestle Toll House morsels) and inexpensive Red Baron frozen pizzas ($2.27 each) which will make a quick Halloween night meal before heading out to trick-or-treat with my boys.

Christmas is coming and this is a great, inexpensive gift idea! My mom and sister both had birthdays in October and I gave each of them a photo book containing the pictures from our Bahamas cruise this summer. The books turned out beautiful and in the age of digital photography, it is nice to have an actual “book” to house the memories.
